Manaslu is the 8th highest mountain in the world at 8163m / 26781ft. It was first climbed in 1956 by a Japanese expedition led by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu. It is one of three 8000ers which are located completely within Nepal (the others are Annapurna and Dhaulagiri)
The first Australian ascent of Manaslu was in 2002 by Andrew Lock and the first New Zealand ascent was in 2009 by Julian Haszard. (Source: Himalayan Database)

Project Base8000 expedition: September 2022 (completed)
Base Camp – Nepal – 4,881m / 16,014ft
- this trek is a circuit around Manaslu. The trek is known for it’s many waterfalls
- the trek involves staying at teahouses along the way
- how to get there – drive from Kathmandu to Macha Khola and trek from there. The trek ends in Dharapani where we drive back to Kathmandu
- number of days trekking – 14 days with extra days at either end to fly/drive
- best time of year to trek – October/November otherwise March/April. The climbing season starts in September, which is when there will be tents at base camp, however the weather is more rainy for trekking.
